Number of Students in Athletic Program

During the 2008-2009 school year, 41% (up from 32% in 07-08) of the student body, 877 students, participated in a fall, winter, or spring sport, during which time the Jaguar varsity teams captured the Winter All Sports Trophy in the Sunkist League, 3 Sunkist League Championships and 59 athletes made 1st, 2nd, or Honorable Mention All-Sunkist League Teams, and 4 were named Sunkist League Team Most Valuable Players (MVP’s). 5 individual athletes made All-CIF teams. At Jurupa Valley High the Student athlete is strongly emphasized. This philosophy promotes the youngster as a student academically first and an athlete second. In 2008—2009, Jurupa Valley High School proudly claimed 91Academic All-League Athletes who earned a 3.5 GPA or higher during their season of sport. Reflecting upon this year athletic participation, the large number of students involved is very evident.

  1. The Jurupa Valley High School believes that an athletic program provides opportunity for students to acquire tools for lifelong personal growth and fulfillment of potential. These tools include ability to play fair, perseverance, desire to play fair, self discipline, and grace in winning and losing. Furthermore, lifelong participation in physical activity is valuable for physical and mental health and fitness.
  2. While the high school takes pride in winning, we do not condone “winning at any cost” and discourage any and all pressures, which lead to poor sportsmanship and neglect good physical and mental health. At all times, the athletics program will be conducted in a way that is complementary and supportive of the educational programs at Jurupa Valley High School.
