THE JAGUARS- NEW AND IMPROVED! Opening the 2011 season with a kickoff return for a touchdown was only the first indicator of exciting things to come. Fulfilling expectations, the 2011 Team made history as an undefeated preseason record came to be. A record of 5-0-1, is best record Jurupa Valley Football has ever had.  Exciting runs, great hits, deep passes and even a few penalties helped add to the drama of a number of thrilling, gut wrenching wins this pre-season. Sunkist League play was just as exciting. An opening victory over Patriot improved our record to 5-0-1, continuing the record setting streak. Heartbreaking losses to Kaiser, Norte Vista and eventual CIF Champion Summit High School prevented a CIF playoff spot for Jurupa Valley. A season ending victory over Bloomington ended a ten year losing streak to Bloomington and created an opportunity for new traditions. Yet the numerous wins and losses don’t tell the whole story about this group of young men and the countless obstacles they overcame.

Jurupa Valley Football created many new traditions. As freshman, this group enjoyed a 4-6 record full of “Servite” Cheers and hopes of better things to come. A small group of them were thrust into Varsity action as sophomores and the speed and athleticism of Varsity football smacked em right in the face! We struggled as juniors and a 73rd ranking out of 75 Inland area football teams. We had our opportunities to win games after defeating Pacific H.S.to kickoff the 2010 season. Crushing loses to Rim of the World and Perris were only two of the pre-season games that helped insure the 73rd ranking. Perhaps they were just waiting for the popular thinking … “It’s my senior season now, “I get the starting spot and I’ll give it everything”.  The frustrations of the 2010 season lead to sweat and pain in the off-season to ensure a winning season. I will never forget Jonathan Miranda squatting 225 pounds 50+ times as the Eisenhower team sat in awe! Jon’s example is just one of many efforts that were made by a number of players who were ready to succeed. The perseverance of this team to overcome the many obstacles including school history, coaches leaving, players quitting, student-athletes not participating, declined student enrollment, grades, fatherhood and employment opportunities never impeded our ultimate goal.

The 2011 team should be commended for their perseverance and never wavering faith in success. Traditions don’t graduate and examples like singing your ALMA MATER, WINNING and JAGUARS OF THE NIGHT don’t end with the senior class.  I have always known that coaching high school football is a great opportunity and to coach YOU has made all the sacrifices worth it. It’s these commitments and lessons that I hope you take forth in all of your life’s endeavors. You played like winners and learned valuable life lessons that can be applied for extra yards in the game of life. My coaching staff and I would like to congratulate you for a tremendous season and I would personally like to thank you for letting me coach you in games that matter!

These student athletes have earned the respect of their coaches, family, school, community, the Sunkist League and CIF. May the friendships they have made, the experiences we have shared and their commitment in striving for excellence lead to their life-long success!

Congratulations to our 2011 Jurupa Valley Jaguar Football Team
